Although Anne Marie was exposed to aviation at a very early age, her active engagement with aviation began later in life.  Initially introduced to aviation through her father’s passion for the craft and his flights in his Mooney Mite between Texas oil wells, Anne Marie wasn’t herself bitten by the yearning to fly as pilot in command in her youth.  Years after witnessing a commercial plane crash in her teens had instilled a fear of flying, she enrolled in a ground school class on her brother’s recommendation, intent to overcome that fear. While on an introductory flight at Van Nuys Airport, the flight instructor empowered her to take control of the airplane – which not only helped her overcome her fear, but became the starting point of a life-long love affair with flying.

Since those first moments at the controls, Anne Marie has earned the ratings of ATP (Single and Multi- Engine); Commercial Sea Plane; Aircraft Dispatcher; and has a Tail Wheel endorsement. She has participated in numerous air races and air rallies. She is affiliated with various aviation organizations on local and international levels. She has garnered awards from the International Ninety Nines- San Fernando Valley Chapter Rookie Pilot of the Year, San Fernando Valley Chapter Woman Pilot of the Year, Southwest Section Pilot of the Year and the Schubert Service Award. She is also a Tour Coordinator for EAA’s B17 “Aluminum Overcast”. She is privileged to be a professional Traffic Watch pilot and a command pilot for Angel Flight West. One of her favorite accomplishments is the ownership of her beloved Gulfstream American Tiger.

She loves to make long cross country trips with her family and her dog, Claire Puppy, who has already accumulated around 50 hours!  When she’s not flying, Anne Marie wears a number of other hats. She owns a music publishing company, “Flaunch Music” and is an ASCAP songwriter & publisher. Her song, “See Her Fly” is an Air Race favorite  Anne Marie also owns Safer- Baby!, a baby safety products company with her husband, Mike, and holds a CPA license from the State of California.

Anne Marie met Margaret in Oshkosh while working in EAA’s B17 program. She recognized Margaret’s zest for life, her intellectual poise and her relentless appreciation for detail and information. They began a terrific friendship and have become like family over the years. It was a natural shared decision for them to want to race together!
